Description: 1959 NFL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME Memorial Stadium, Baltimore Plus: 1959 New York Giants Highlights and 1959 Baltimore Colts Highlights Rare Sportsfilms, Inc. is the rights owner of this DVD The 1959 NFL Championship Game, the 1959 New York Giants Highlights and the 1959 Baltimore Colts Highlights are available for the first time on a new 1 hour, 39-minute DVD! These original B & W films have now been restored by Rare Sportsfilms and all three are now included on this new 99-minute DVD! The Giants highlight film, narrated by Chris Schenkel and presented by Ballentine Beer, and the Colts film, narrated by Bailey Goss and Chuck Thompson and presented by National Bohemian Beer, each show the top games (see below) from the regular season. The “1959 New York Giants” film shows highlights of every game of the Giants 1959 season. In contrast to the year before, the Giants won the East with comparative ease. Included is “Charlie Conerly Day” at Yankee Stadium, in which the veteran Giants QB is showered with gifts. Following the pre-game festivities, Charlie has a great day vs Washington, throwing 3 TD passes just in the first half and has the Giants in front 31-0 before intermission! With two games left in the regular season, the players and coaches are shown in an empty Yankee Stadium, practicing for the big Eastern Conference showdown with the Cleveland Browns. The preparation pays off on game day, as the Giants give the Browns their worst beating in history, 48-7, completely shutting down Jim Brown, Lou Groza, Milt Plum and company to clinch the East in front of their home fans! Next week, Conerly wins the NFL passing championship at Washington, this time beating the Redskins 24-10. At the end of this film, produced by Winik Films of New York, a short version of the NFL Championship game is shown. Shot from a higher angle than the longer, official film produced by Tel Ra for national viewing, it offers a quick review of the most important plays of the game! After the first seven games of the ’59 season, the defending champion Colts were floundering with a 4-3 record, and had just been upset at Washington 27-24. This was the low point of the season however, as Baltimore then finished with five wins in a row, starting with a tough 28-24 win vs Packers at Milwaukee, which turned the season around. They clinched the West with outstanding games at Kezar Stadium (first time they had ever beaten the 49’ers there) and at the L.A. Coliseum vs Rams in their final two games of the season! All this is covered in the “59 Colts, World Champions” highlight film, which takes you through the Colts season showing highlights of the most important games. Included at the end is a special segment with particularly outstanding plays showing the extra effort which allowed the Colts to repeat as World Champions. The “1959 NFL Championship Game” is the official, long version film of the title game made by Tel Ra Productions. Also presented by Ballentine Beer and narrated by Chris Schenkel (commercial with famous trick golfer Paul Hahn included), the film covers pre-game warmups and the pageantry of this Colts-Giants rematch. The scoring begins with a first quarter Unitas to Lenny Moore 60-yd TD pass play. After that, the expected tough defensive game plays out, with the Giants’ outstanding kicker Pat Summerall booting three field goals which put the Giants ahead 9-7 at the end of three quarters. During this time however, key injuries to Jim Patton and Kyle Rote hurt the Giants chances. The turning point of the game comes late in the third quarter with the Giants on the Colt 28 yard line, fourth down and inches to go. But Gino Marchetti (playing one of his greatest games) and the Colt defense stops Alex Webster and the Colts take over the ball. This changes the momentum of the game, and the Colts suddenly score four times in the fourth quarter, building a 31-9 lead before the Giants score their only touchdown on a Conerly to Bob Schnelker TD pass with less than a minute left in the game. On this new DVD, Colts fans will enjoy seeing all the players from the fabulous 1959 team and Giants fans will enjoy watching their heroes from 1959. Throughout, you’ll see Colt players Unitas, Ameche, Moore, Berry, Steve Myhra, Jerry Richardson, Alex Hawkins, Mike Sommer, L.G.
