Description: Check out 12 fertilized silkie and satin (smooth/frizzle) bantam small chicken eggs on eBay! https://www.ebay.com/itm/204840682673?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=XlSwmkhkSCS&sssrc=2524149&ssuid=XlSwmkhkSCS&widget_ver=artemis&media=EMAIL Before reading my ad please consider purchasing a Govee thermometer/hydrometer to monitor your incubator. It is at the level of the eggs and will give you a correct temperature (unlike the smaller black thumb sized thermometers). I use a Harris Farms incubator after going through multiple less than optimal incubators for high hatch rate. The Govee will take up two slots in the incubator, but it is worth knowing the temp and humidity to help with the survival rate. HISTORY OF CHICK HATCHING ANATOMY Hens are born with the full number of eggs they will lay in a lifetime. They grow them to a size that can be laid based on their internal biology (silkies 4 times a week and cochins daily). I don't add artificial light and allow them to raise their young, so they can recover and extend their egg laying years (while fulfilling their calling to be a mom). SHIPPING These eggs will be mailed out 3-day air USPS and should arrive within that time. I will collect eggs over 1-2 day period to ensure they are fresh. I will not ship out eggs during heat waves. Eggs that begin to develop without being turned will stick to the sides of the shell and die. I don't want to take a chance of freezing the eggs with ice packs. It is better to always wait for cooler weather. The bantam rooster in the first photo is a frizzle Satin. I only breed three types of chickens-Satins (frizzle/smooth), Silkie, and Cochin. Please note you cannot breed frizzles with frizzles, otherwise you will end up with 25% frazzled (organ issues and bald spots). A smooth and a frizzle will result in 50% frizzled and 50% smooth fully feathered healthy chicks. My chickens and chicks eat top quality food and supplements. All bantams receive great care and repay with daily eggs of differing shapes and colors. The adult bantams are all parasite and disease free and see an avian vet for check-ups quarterly. The eggs will include a mixture of bantams that will weigh 2-3 lbs for hens and 3-4 lbs for roosters. These eggs are fresh, stored large side up, and unwashed to ensure maximum hatching. My home hatches have been 100% with my girls. These eggs have not been under a hen and will require 21 days to hatch. I will label the eggs with the name of the hen and include the rooster's name upon request. The chicks will balance on the edge of bins and coops if they can reach the edge. Most of the frizzle satins and silkies will be flightless with great jumping skills. Smooth frizzles will be able to fly 1 to 3 ft high. My hens will fly to and jump on a chair to avoid an overly amorous flightless roo (who should put more effort into dancing and tid bitting). COLORS AND FEATHER TYPES Some of the colors and breeds include Splash Silkie, Black Frizzled Satin, Blue Silkie, Black Silkie, Buff Silkies, White Silkies, Golden Laced Satin , and Partridge Satin. The feathering can be Silkie, frizzle Silkie, Satin, and frizzled Satin. Usually with frizzles half of the progeny will end up with curly feathers. SATINS Satins are a close relative of the beautiful and unique Silkie bantams and they maintain the personality and physical traits of their Silkie relatives in all aspects except feathering. Satin feathers are similar to regular chicken feathers, but much softer and they have a really soft and fluffy undercoat. They come in both frizzle and smooth varieties and both types are beautiful and totally different from any other breed. The frizzled variety has feathers curled backwards so with neck feathers curling around their face until their head resembles a Chrysanthemum with eyes, these little guys are the most comical yard ornaments you will ever see. It's almost impossible to look at them without smiling or sometimes even laughing out loud! Frizzled or smooth, they are definitely an overdose of cute. The curly cuties are now well into 30 generations, breeding true, doing great at shows, and they are gorgeous! I'm breeding for beauty, friendliness, personality, and toward an award winning variety meeting ABA and APA standards. SEXING CHICKS Satins sexed by comb, behavior, sound, and crest as early as 1 month and as late as 3 months in the first generation satins. Some of the young satins will emit barely audible kazoo-like crow at 1 month (that will be audible at 5-6 months). First generation satins chicks can be sexed at an earlier age can be seen with hens Dawn, Peep and Sweet. All others will be silkie or second generation satins that can be sexed from 3 to 5 months. TEMPERAMENT Both Silkies and Satins are sweet, gentle, and very docile toward everyone and everything. They seem to enjoy attention, being cuddled, and carried. They will often sit on your foot begging to be picked up. These little lap chickens can be kept indoors in chicken diapers or outdoors to forage for bugs behind a baby gate. Both breeds are non-flyers and easily confined by a low 24" garden fence. The exceptions are the smooth variety of Satins. They can fly a bit, but seldom choose to do so unless frightened or startled. SUCCESSFUL HATCHING (FOR NEWBIES) I am here to assist you the whole process from hatching eggs to raising chicks in a brooder. An incubator should be able to maintain humidity (50%), turn eggs, and the proper temperature (99.5-100.5 F gegrees). I use a GOVEE to monitor temperature and humidity from my phone, given that not all incubators are accurate, especially cheap ones. My incubator of choice is the Manna Pro Harris Farms Nurture Right for price and hatch rate (and really should be the standard for any incubator). Bantams usually hatch earlier than standards, so be sure to turn off the turner and increase humidity to 70% at 17 days. All chicks will remain in the incubator to dry for 12 to 24 hours (until fluffy) and then put in a brooder with a heat lamp on one end and food/water on the other end. Heat can be about 95 F degrees and decreased by 5 degrees every week. If the chicks are staying away from the heat lamp or panting, you can decrease it by another 5 degrees. Make sure that a thermometer is on the ground of the brooder to monitor the amount of heat as well. USPS Handling and Outside Factors Always candle your eggs and photograph any issues you see in the eggs within 24 hours after the eggs arrive. Damaged and older eggs can still hatch but require a change in how they are incubated. I am here to help you troubleshoot from the photos you send me. Only incubate eggs after the egg has reached room temperature (a quick change in temp may kill the embryo). Any hairline cracks must be immediately repaired with candle wax to keep out bacteria. As long as liquid is not seeping out, any egg can be salvaged to result in a healthy chick. I have successsfully hatched cracked and refrigerated eggs. I will ensure that the eggs are well packaged and firmly inplace for minimal movement.
