Description: AEROFLOT Ballpoint pen:A unique collectible piece of commercial flight and political history. The pen commemorates the Chicago-Moscow inaugural flight on May 15, 1992. What makes this writing instrument even more interesting is that while the pen barrel reads Aeroflot Soviet airlines, the Soviet Union had undergone dissolution on December 26 1991! Although the pen shows some wear/dirt and a ¾” hairline crack of no consequence in its screw-on cap (see picture 1). That the pen shows some less than a pristine condition is not unusual considering its age. It is not possible to know if these pens were ever handed out to customers as souvenirs on that inaugural flight considering the discrepancy between the date of the flight and that of the end of the Soviet Union. That discrepancy makes the pen all the more interesting. The ink in the cartridge, also by Sheaffer, dried out long time ago. Still of interest and as noted, this pen for a Soviet/Russian airline was made in the USA.
