Description: I am currently selling an outstanding collection of extremely rare paintings by the 20th century female artist Eleanor J. Mathews. Based out of Maitland, Florida, she was a phenomenal artists whose works are exceedingly rare with only one other example I have been able to identify. A talented artist she is unfortunately little known due to the lack of works ever to have surfaced. I have eight fine original works for sale of which were purchased from a Winter Park, Florida collection. Up for sale is a stunning Eleanor Mathews oil pastel on paper laid to board the famous Palace of the Generals Captains located in Antigua, Guatemala. One of the finest Colonial Renaissance buildings in the Americas, this was originally constructed in the late 18th century, this stunning depiction shows the extinct Agua volcano towering above the clouds in the distance. Signed in the low right corner "Eleanor J. Mathews" this painting measures 9 x 12 inches and shows fine coloring and execution of the gorgeous scene. The condition of this oil pastel is fine showing minimal edge wear and pasted to board by artist. Eleanor's Artist Biography Eleanor J. Mathews was born in 1894 in Chicago, Illinois.
